  • Poor in Spirit, Rich in Presence

To live without recognition, without thought, of the past or the future is to be “poor in spirt” because the present is un-ownable, always being lost. Our only riches exist in some future anticipation or some past memory.

The more fully we live in the present, the more we are blessed. So don’t be afraid to let go of your worries or regrets.

You’re afraid because you fear poverty, but poverty is where you will find grace.

To always live like this seems impossible. But to pray like this, and to pray often, is possible, good, meaningful, healthy.

  • How Will I Breathe?

    what if you stop
    feeling your love for me?

    how will i breathe?
    i will only breathe again
    if i am reborn

    but i want to stay
    in this womb

    but, no, you cannot
    breathe for me

    this fear is meant
    not for your love
    but for a divine one
  • Crowding Out Thorny Worries

A close-up of handwritten notes in a notebook, reflecting on personal growth and introspection, with phrases about nurturing and managing inner thoughts.
    Inside of me,
A place where wild things roam,
    A flock I must shepherd,
    A garden I must tend

    Through storms and attacks,
    Famine, entropy, growth...growth
    — Is it not all growth?

Growth to be hedged and pruned,
    Encouraged here, enticed there,
To be nurtured into something beautiful.

And what of these thorny worries?
I've let them grow, expecting fruit,
But they've only become a mess.

    I try pruning,
But they only grow back stronger.
Instead, I'll try to crowd them out.

    I'll scatter, all among them,
Little seeds of prayer, and of faith
    That I'll receive the grace
To handle whatever comes, when it comes.
