    Here we are,
    Six billion pigments
    On the painter’s palette,
    Anxiously awaiting
    The moment
    We are swept up
    And made strokes
    On the magnum opus.

    Here we are.

    He inhaled.
    The tip of his
    Cigarette turned
    Red.

    He exhaled.
    Smoke slithered
    Around his
    Neck.

    There he sat
    Upon on a bench,
    A retired bank exec,
    Living

    The little bit
    Of life
    He hadn’t sold
    Yet.
